Slope / Rough Field Recording 1 / Thinner Than Recall

A 3 track house ep (21m 59s) — released January 7th 2008 on Bomb Shop

Composed between 2003 and 2007, this small collection of Linn's work encapsulates a formative moment.

"Slope", written in 2003 in Paris, displays Linn's style before the tempo started to drop- an almost textbook dancefloor moment in form and function. Yet the seeds of development ar there- the blend of atmospheric, occasionally nightmarish field recorded sound with angelic tonal textures, and deep crisp percussive sounds programmed with acute detail. "Slope" betrays a solid understanding of tech-house mechanics and hints at what is to come with the "Rough Field Recordings" series.

"Rough Field Recording 1" shows Linn in full slo-mo house mode. The deep tech style, developed through live performances in 2005/2006, encapsulates Linn's dancefloor manifesto. Never rising above 110BPM, though often falling below 90, the series is not, as may be expected, downtempo. The dropped BPM only creates more space for "techrobatics"- the abstract, punchy percussion and monolithic basses keep the series based firmly in tough dancefloor territory.

"Thinner Than Recall" is a post-"Rough" series gem from the slo-mo lab, and the progress is clear: the rhythmic style is more defined, the grooves stripped bare and the programming microcosmic in detail.

The Rough Field Recordings series is due for release on Bomb Shop in early 2011.

Post-IDM beatscape that's sure to appeal to fans of labels like Planet Mu or even the more contemplative output of an imprint like Sublight - Boomkat www.boomkat.com
